Stitch Along

I have made a whole lot of progress on the birth announcement. This is what I am working on. I was getting ready to start it 3 weeks ago.

This is where I am now.

There has been a whole lot of frogging on this piece. The border has been easy to stitch. Though I got bored stitching brown and decided to start the interior. The green on the bottom was almost fully stitched....two different colors....when I realized that something was wrong. There was minimal difference in the two colors and you should have been able to see a dark and a bright. It turns out that I must have put a few stray strands of a different floss on the DMC 699 bobbin and it was almost the same color as the lighter green. I think those stray strands may have been leftovers from a kit. I took out all of the green stitches, threw away the mismatched color and started over. The rest of the floss on the 699 bobbin was a nice rich dark green and definitely the correct color.

This piece is stitching up quickly which makes me very happy. I am also still working on the Woodland Animals stocking as I just don't want to put it aside.

Thank you to Avis at Sewing Beside the Sea for hosting Stitch Along every three weeks and sending us the needed posting reminders.

Grab yourself a cup of coffee or tea and take some time to visit the other bloggers below who are part of this stitch-along. There is a wide variety of stitching projects. These talented stitchers are from all over the world, so please allow for the time differences and check back for each post. Helen is under the weather this week so she won't be posting an update, but I included her in the list if you wish to visit her site and see what she has been up to. I hope she feels better soon.

  3. Hi Cathie, Your stitching looks lovely! May all your stitches be noticed quickly in the future so you may not need to frog much more on this piece... I love it and I think your son and DIL will too... esp since they picked it out ! lol
Enjoy continuing the stocking work too!

  4. Very nice start after 3weeks. I feel your pain about using leftovers from kits I also sometimes accidentally mix colours despite doing it in a good light. Kits are the safest for me but of I ever run out I start using random colours to fill in haha.

    1. I only recently started putting leftover kit floss in with my regular floss. I don't think I will do that any more.

  6. That brown border looks very labor intensive, so I can see why you wanted to work on a different section! I bet it's fun to see the animals starting to emerge.

  7. My old cross stitch project has the same issue... a lot of 2 greens and it's making me frustrated. You are making great progress on the sampler in spite of the green challenge!

  8. Hello Cathie: That is going to be a beauty, I have done the same with threads, then the frog comes out so frustrating.
I am hope to see the progress on the stocking.

  9. Reverse stitching is so annoying - your piece looks lovely and such a sweet idea to announce the birth of someone special!

    1. I have made cross-stitch birth announcements for each of my own children and for my granddaughter. My son bought me this chart when he was on his honeymoon in anticipation that I would make it for his first child.

  10. I've noticed that shades do sometimes vary from kit to kit, even if colour refs are the same. I suppose dye colour batches can vary over the years.

    1. I also think that sometimes the company substitutes colors or the colors fade over the years.

  14. Frogging is no fun as it feels like wasting time twice. Well done for spotting and correcting the error. You've still made amazing progress!

  15. The Birth Announcement is such a pretty design. I would get bored stitching brown stitches for what seems forever, too.

  17. beautiful stitching and isn't it nice you caught the greens sooner than later? I don't like to undo stitching at all, it stresses me out.
