Merry Christmas!

If you are looking for the Stitch Along update, you can find it here in the previous post of the day.

Last week Hubby and I bought our Christmas tree and got it decorated.

I also put up the New England Christmas village.

There's no TV in that cabinet. Just our large stereo speakers.
I try to change where I put the houses each year.
I think it looks pretty and makes our living room festive.

Last weekend Hubby and I took a break and drove to Pennsylvania to visit our son. He will be moving to California in January. It was a nice break from the regular routine. Saturday night we ordered take-out from Seasons 52 for dinner, but Sunday night our son cooked a really tasty chicken thigh meal for us. He is quite the chef. He's a much better cook than I am.  Hubby helped him by making the salad.

Since packing will be happening in January, Matt only put out the crocheted Christmas tree that I made him a couple of years ago.

I finally finished the secret cross-stitch and it is off to the framer. Now I am concentrating on stitching the Santa stocking. You can see an update on my progress in another post later today.

I have been working on other projects at work during the periods when no students show up. For your info, I run the Math Center at a local high school that allows students to come any period of the day that they have free to get help with their various math classes. I am basically an on-call math tutor. Some periods are busy and others are not, so I keep a small item to work on that can be easily put aside to help any student who shows up. Santa is too big to come to work with me.

I recently picked up this cross-stitch apron to work on. It will be a future gift.

Yesterday I started my cookie baking. I made the dough for Raspberry Walnut Thumbprint Cookies. You can find that recipe here. I also baked up some good ole Nestle Toll House cookies. These are by far my favorite cookie. I am not sure yet what other cookies I will be baking.

I am joining Kathy for some Slow Sunday Stitching! Pop on over to her site to see what other bloggers are stitching. You know that I will be working on Santa.

Merry Christmas!

Thanks for stopping by!

  1. So nice to see your village and your tree! Very festive. Glad you could have a visit with your son. Our daughter will be here for Christmas but we will not be gathering with the rest of the family in person. Sigh….I hope this pandemic is over soon!

  3. Your home looks so festive--love your decorations!! Great that your son is such a good cook; my son loves to cook also--and strangely, although she is a good cook, my daughter is not fond of cooking:)
MERRY CHRISTMAS to you and yours, hugs, Julierose

  4. I make that same cookie recipe except mine tells you to bake for 5 minutes then take out of the oven and make the indention and fill with jam, put back in the oven for 8 minutes I think - either way it is a good cookie and make it every year. Sorry your son will be moving further away from you - but I guess you can look on it as exploring a new place when you visit.

  5. Such a pretty Christmas village. I love aprons and adore the thought of cross stitch on one, not that I can do cross stitch. Merry Christmas to you and your family, I've enjoyed sharing in your projects throughout the year.

  6. Merry Christmas Cathie and Family: Your tree is lovely, we can only have a small tree, little Mikey like to take the big ones down, did you make the tree skirt? just curious.
Beautiful Christmas Village, so bright and pretty.
The crocheted tree is very pretty and full.
What a treat to have a chef cook your meal it sounds yummy, he is lucky to be moving to warmer weather, I rather envy him, so sorry he is moving away from you but maybe vacations to California for you and your husband.
I like the apron you are working on, wine and goodies to eat and drink.

    Merry Christmas

  10. A wonderful post, Cathie. I liked that photo of son and Dad in the kitchen. I adore your crocheted Christmas tree...what a keepsake. If I could stitch useful things, I would like to make aprons as I use one every day. Neat idea to do that cross stitch pattern on one. Anyway, enjoy your cookie eating and the final days to the main event.

  13. Your Christmas tree is gorgeous! And....the New England Christmas Village is so lovely. Love all the sweet buildings with the lights shining through the windows. And....there are people, too; truly wonderful! Your son's crochet tree is whimsical. Moving to California....that is a long way away. May you and your family enjoy a lovely Christmas, Cathie. I look forward to visiting you next year to see what lovely pretties you are stitching.
