Crafting Away

From the very long list that I published a couple of weeks ago, I have settled on 4 or 5 projects to consistently work on right now.

Santa is taking priority as I have been working on him for quite a while and I want to know that he is done for next Christmas. As you can see, I have added to the red ribbon at the bottom of the gift below that diamond that will be the gift tag..

I have added several rows to the Baby Elephant blanket. You can see the beginning of its trunk and the ears are very noticeable now.

This apron is a project that I do at work when I don't have any students to help.

I didn't have two of the recommended colors and didn't feel like shopping for them when I have so much other floss so I substituted. I found this site to help me make the substitutions. Usually the first or second recommended color works well. When this is finished I will find another small project to work on. I have several stashed away.

I took out October Morning to work on also.

I have been working on this for a very long time. My mother started it years ago, but didn't enjoy cross-stitch. Unfortunately, I had to frog all of her work as she used the wrong color floss and didn't follow the chart. I would say that it is about 1/3 completed. I have added some confetti stitches in recent weeks so the progress is hard to see. You might notice the yellow flowers scattered by the fence.

Finally, I want to work on the Log Cabin Star quilt I am making for my daughter and her husband. I haven't added anything to it since last summer, but I am hoping that if I know it is on the rotation list, I will at least make the attempt to go to the basement and add a few more rows. Hmmm, I know that I had to clear off my sewing table again. Isn't that always the way? We were experiencing bitterly cold temperatures yesterday with a steady wind, so that was yesterday's clean-up project. Now I am ready to sew whenever I put my mind to it.

My son is here for the weekend again. He moves to CA on Wednesday, so I am not sure how much stitching is going to happen this weekend. When he was here last weekend I decided I wanted to celebrate his birthday (didn't know he would be back with us this weekend). We haven't been together for his birthday for a few years now and I know he will be alone this year too. I made him a small chocolate cake and Hubby and I sang Happy Birthday.

We will enjoy every moment we have with him this weekend as we probably won't see him again until just before his wedding in April.

I am joining Kathy for some Slow Sunday Stitching. Pop on over to her site to see what other bloggers are stitching. I might add some stitches to Santa today.

Thanks for stopping by.

  2. That’s a swell plan you have in place. Progress will be made. Baby elephant blanket is too cute and appears to be a relative quick project. There is nothing better than homemade chocolate cake for a b’day celebration.

  6. You have chosen a nice assortment of projects to work on! I agree with making Santa a priority . So nice to have your son home again before he moves. Thank goodness for technology that allows us to see and talk to our family members that live far away! My sewing room is in need of a clean up as well. It’s so much easier to work on a sewing project when your work space is tidy. Happy stitching to you!

  11. Lots of love stitching pretties to decide to work on, Cathi. It's nice to see October Morning again. It is always wonderful to catch a glimpse of your cheery Santa and your Baby Elephant. Baby Elephant is adorable and as for Santa, well, he always cheers my day. I will be a bit sad when you finish him, as he brightens my day. =) Yes, to a piece of that chocolate cake, please. Chocolate cake is a must for a birthday. Fabulous you get to spend the weekend with your son before he departs for California. Sending you some summer warmth to cheer your wintry day.

  15. Santa is really coming along. Have enjoyed seeing your progress on it. The elephant blanket is adorable, could you add a link to the pattern you're using for it? Loving the design on the apron with the wine...I love Still Life's, Happy Birthday to your son, enjoy your visit with him. The fall scene will be very pretty when done, but I was wondering, isn't it hard on the fabric to pull out that many stitches to start over?

    1. The Elephant Blanket is from an very old Crochet Home magazine that I doubt you will be able to find. I am you like my projects. As for pulling out the stitches on October Morning, it is a very durable fabric to the point that I had to find a sturdy needle just to be able to stitch it.
