The Woodland Babies birth announcement is finished.
Isn’t it adorable?! I just love all the cute little animals.
Now for the question. I have added the yellow border to Royal Squares. I had seen a version of this quilt on the internet where the following border layout was done.
The yellow is extended in the corners and a four patch of the original quilt fabrics is placed in the corners. I have enough of the quilt fabrics to make the four corners. Does the quilt become too busy then? Should I just use the floral fabric all around without the four patches. I thought using the four patches in the corners might unify the quilt and not make the borders look like the afterthought that they are.
I have started to connect the blocks for “Windows into my World”. I have 2 of the 6 rows done.
All of these have been saved from Easter plants that I have received in years past.
I will be joining Kathy for some Slow Sunday Stitching and Frederique at the Quilting Patch. Make yourself some tea or coffee and pop on over to their sites to see what other bloggers are stitching.
Thanks for stopping by!
It's dangerous giving me the opportunity to make suggestions about what do next for a quilt. I just love trying to analyze and then ponder how would I proceed with a quilt. I'm guessing you think the current layout is too busy and detracts from the central section of the quilt. I agree with that. One simple possibility is to take out the 4 patch in the corner and try substituting it with a correct size blue floral fabric. Perhaps swapping a solid green border for the yellow would help. Yellow is extremely eye catching. Green would give a softer transition. Whatever you decide, I'm sure it will work.
ReplyDeleteYou made me think that I should swap the yellow. I think that is what I don't like about this quilt right now. I will make a trip to the quilt store and see what I can find.
DeleteI like the four patches but sew them together like a checkerboard--not with the darks and lights beside each other. Would you consider making the yellow border a bit narrower? Yellow can be a bit attention seeking in a quilt and you want to highlight the pretty blocks in the middle... Just an idea! The birth announcement is lovely--I love all the animals too. This will be a treasured keepsake!
ReplyDeletePretty daffodils--a sure sign of spring.

El borde amarillo y los cuatro parches de la tela original encajan perfectos. BESICOS.
ReplyDeleteOh the stitching is just beautiful and cute , Love the quilting to. What ever you do with the Quilt it will also be beautiful.
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely Sunday hugs June.
Oooh your embroidery is so cute! What a lovely gift for the little one! I enjoyed seing it growing, and the finished project is wonderful. For Royal Square, what about adding a thin brown border between the yellow and floral ones? Then the corners will blend more and will add the effect you are searching for. By the way, I love it right now!
ReplyDeleteWindows is growing nicely too, it's going to be a finish very soon! Enjoy the pretty daffodils, these are such a Spring symbol!
Thank you for sharing, and linking up!
The birth announcement is adorable - hooray for a finish! I like the yellow and floral borders on your Royal Squares top. Extending the yellow in the corners like that is a great design choice! That corner square could either be another piece of the floral or the four patch. Hard decision to make!
ReplyDeleteThe daffodils are gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteHi Cathie: I like the printed fabric, it makes the inside pop, the yellow is a perfect color.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the Sampler finish, it is truly adorable.
The Windows into the World is fascinating.

Beautiful finish on the birth announcement! The daffodils are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteYour birth announcement came out amazing! It is super adorable, especially with all that stitching!
ReplyDeleteIt’s a fabulous idea to extend the yellow fabric into the corner stones. The printed fabric does draw the eye away from the dark borders and highlight the floral fabrics. Whichever way you go it will be lovely! The Windows into my World looks like so much fun! Loving those bright colors! I have just started playing with bulbs and I’m so eager to see what happens this year!Thank you so much for sharing!
Your birth announcement is gorgeous, I'm not a cross stitcher buys I've enjoyed seeing your progression on this.
ReplyDeleteYour birth announcement finish is super cute. I like the yellow if it was the only border. I'd lose the four patch and if you are going for a bigger size, maybe audition a green like Gwyned recommended. What ever you choose, it will be right!--TerryK@OnGoingProjects
ReplyDeleteI think I have decided to remove the yellow border and be done.
Deletelovely sampler! I know nothing about quilting but I think no four corners would look nice. (but what do I know!).
