Stitch Along Update

Once again, I can't believe how quickly three weeks have passed by! I can't say that I have spent much time at all on Three Boats. I am trying to put as many stitches as possible on the Santa Stocking and the secret stitching. Here is where Three Boats was at the last update.

At least this time, it is easy to see the progress that I have made over three weeks.

Along with adding some stitches to Three Boats yesterday, I decided to treat my mother (and me) to my grandmother's sour cream coffee cake.

Just smelling this baking brought back so many childhood memories. It tastes so delicious too. Here is the recipe in my mother's handwriting.

Mom stated that she grinds the walnuts for the topping, but I just chopped them. Mom actually told me that she liked that better when she had a piece yesterday.

Speaking of mom, she is doing okay now that she has been home a while. Despite being approved for 24/7 care from Medicaid, we are still paying for 12 hours of care a day and I am still staying overnight as, so far, none of the local approved home care agencies has anyone available for 24/7.  I have been told that they can't provide services for anything less than what has been prescribed. That just doesn't seem right. I am so tired and frustrated.

A big thank you to Avis at Sewing Beside the Sea for hosting this Stitch Along every three weeks.

Grab yourself a cup of coffee or tea, maybe a piece of coffee cake, and take some time to visit the other talented bloggers below who are part of this stitch-along. You will see a wide variety of stitching projects. These talented stitchers are from all over the world so please allow for the time differences and check back for each post.

  2. That coffee cake looks delicious! You have several projects on the go and do well to add stitches to all of them each week. There is a shortage of Personal Support Workers here too. It’s very hard to get Enough help for seniors and others who need assistance. One day at a time. Take care

  3. that is awful how slow the medical care can be and how precise - has to be 24/7 or none! that is crazy. You need a break. Love your stitching and your cake looks good.

  4. Your grandmother's sour cream coffee cake looks delicious, Cathie. You must be so tired, Cathi, with all that is happening....or not happening. Oh, if only your mother could get 24/7 Medicaid. Just a little aside, the crochet blanket in the header is gorgeous. How pretty and happy all those little flowery squares are. Please take care, dear Cathi.

  7. I'm surprised you're managing to stich at all at the moment so well done for that. I know what you're going through. You'll get there eventually but it's so hard to keep going. The care system must be the same the world over.

  9. So sorry to hear that help is not available... not that it's any consolation, but it's the same here too.
So nice to have a hand written recipe!

  10. Oh, that cake looks lovely, and it passed the Mum taste test! So sorry that you are having problems accessing the care you need, and are entitled to. Do hope you can get it sorted out soon.

  12. Yummy looking coffee cake, definitely on my try this list now! Three Boats is definitely progressing. I am so sorry about your health car conundrum. Any chance you can speak to the head person at the health care or to a MedicRe representative, to change the prescription to read 24/7 approved, or 12 hours if staff is unavailable? That might be worth a call to your local representative. Sounds crazy, but it might get you some action.

    1. You are the second person to suggest that I contact my representative. I plan on making a ton of phone calls today to try to get this resolved.

  14. Hi Cathie: Three Boats is really showing progress, i am looking forward to seeing more.
    Your coffee cake looks yummy.
It is good to hear she is doing better and at home.
I am sure it is hard to be in two places but worth the time spent with your Mother.
So sorry they do not have anyone to stay 24 hours.
    Have a lovely week

  16. Hi Cathie - Glad that your mom is doing better, and hopefully she can get the care she needs. It must be exhausting, so I hope you're able to take care of yourself too.

  17. I'm glad that your Mum is doing better but I get your frustration you must be feeling so tired. Your cross stitch is lovely and I can see the progress you have made, there's no hurry it's enjoying the process of stitching that counts I think. I love the sound of that cake, thank you for sharing the recipe.

    1. Yes, care is even harder to come by than usual right now due to the pandemic. The cake is all gone. I have to make another for mom. Thanks for visiting.

  20. honestly that coffee cake is awesome! I am so sad that your mother cannot get the care that has been asked for, WTH? I hope sooner than later you get the help.

  21. You made great progress and that sour cream coffee reminders of my grandmother and mom. I feel and know your frustration with getting the needed card for your mom. I went through the same thing for many years for both my parents with 24/7 care. Not only the hiccups in getting there but getting good care. My thoughts are with you through this journey.

  22. You have made about as much progress on your project as I have on mine. But the little bits add up, and one day, they should both be done.

  23. Oh no. Sorry to hear of the medical care issues. That cake looks so yummy.
