Ahead of my time?

A couple of big trends in crochet today are C2C (corner to corner) crochet and amigurumi. I realized a few weeks ago that I may have been ahead of my time when my husband spilled something on his fleece blanket late at night and I found an afghan that made for him years ago.

I was sitting looking at this afghan and realized that I actually made C2C blocks in the 1980s and sewed them together to make this afghan. You can see the single block with red in the bottom corner and blue in the top corner below.
Here I am wondering if I will be able to figure out how to do this someday and I have already mastered it.

I have also been looking at all the cute crocheted stuffed animals that have been touted as amigurumi (the Japanese art of knitting or crocheting small stuffed creatures). As I was reorganizing my magazine basket, I came across this little guy that I made in the 1980s or 90s when I was selling at local craft-fairs.

This is the only one I have left, but here is an old picture of a whole bunch of them in a basket for sale. I used up scraps of various yarns to make them which is why some of them have white muzzles and feet.
I guess I was ahead of my time then also. These always sold out because a little child always asked their mom for one.
They were about the size of the popular Beanie Baby animals.

Do you have any craft that you did years ago that is making a resurgence now? I would love to hear about it.

I am joining Kathy for some Slow Sunday Stitching. Pop on over to her site to see what other bloggers are stitching. I spent about 2 hours yesterday working on my secret cross-stitch. I hope to spend at least another hour today. Sorry, but I can't share.

Thanks for stopping by!

  2. I like your corner to corner blanket. Some of my friends are making baby blankets with that pattern, all in one piece, and I thought it was a new design. Old things become new again. I've recently made two blankets with a hexagon motif using front post stitches. It's a lot of fun. The pattern came out of an old crochet book from the 1980's.

  3. so for the crochet you make each block starting at the narrow corner and adding width and then narrowing it back down - then join them with the "sashing"? I've always crochet but just simple and just recently getting back to it - I will need to look up C2C and find a video or lesson!

  6. It is the same with fashion (clothes) if you keep them long enough they will come back into fashion. Beautiful blanket.

  7. Your corner to corner afghan is beautiful. This is the second mention of a C2C I have read today. I had not heard of this term before. Yes, it seems you most certainly are a trendsetter.

  9. Never got into the animals, just not my thing. I think in general knitting, crocheting, and cross-stitching have come back around. Back when I first knitted and crocheted...it was difficult to even find yarn to work with, and nothing but WW acrylic was in abundance. Now, There's a yarn store everywhere. Patterns too are much more available then they were previously. Afghans have really come back. Back when I first started making them, they weren't very popular...but then I'm old as dirt...so, it's been a while, lol.

    1. Sandy, those are the only animals that I every crocheted. There are a whole lot of yarn stores around me too, but since most good yarns are too itchy for me I still lean towards acrylic. I do like the feel of knitting or crocheting with the finer yarns though.
