A new family member

My daughter and her fiance adopted this adorable puppy.
They named her Ruby. They believe she is part terrier, part dachshund. Hubby and I haven't met her yet. We will get that opportunity next week when we travel to see them. I am also going wedding dress shopping with her on Saturday. The happy couple will be getting married next Fall, so they are now in the throes of wedding planning. So much fun and excitement coming up.

Now, I had a different kind of excitement this week that was not so much fun. I have been having pain in my right thumb by the palm so I headed to the hand specialist. Since I was going I also wanted to mention to him the knob on the knuckle of my left thumb. Well, I left the office in far more pain than when I went in as I had to get a cortisone shot in my right wrist to calm the inflammation from arthritis that was causing all the pain. Trust me that driving home Tuesday afternoon was the most painful thing I have done in years. I am now sporting this daytime fashion accessory.
The night-time brace is heftier.
The doctor also informed me that the knob on my left thumb is a cyst that needs surgery to remove (also caused by arthritis). That is scheduled for the beginning of January as I have to wait until the semester break from my university course. I need to be able to write and I write left-handed.

Today I decided to try to return to stitching. The pinching motion that is needed to sew is what bothers my hand.
I finally added the teddy bear to Santa's sack. Isn't it adorable.
Santa's sack is full now. I need to add a candy cane as well as a gift and an ornament near the bottom still. You can see the outlines on either side of the sack.
I am also working on a secret cross-stitch design on my PC Stitch program. I am cobbling together some charts that I have as well as adding some of my own design to make a special gift.

This will be my next big project, but I won't be able to share it until it is gifted next year. Right now it is still in the design phase.
I hope my hands heal so I can spend a lot of time working on this.

I am joining Kathy for some Slow Sunday Stitching. Pop on over to her site to see what other bloggers are stitching. I hope to add the candy cane to the Advent Calendar today.

Thanks for stopping by!

    1. I really have to rest it. The little bit of stitching that I did yesterday made it hurt today. Sigh.....

  2. Ruby sure is cute! She will keep them busy! Your hand problems sound very painful. I hope the treatment, brace and surgery will resolve your pain and discomfort. You must be very close to finishing the Advent Calendar...although I am sure there must be 24 little things to add for each day in December...

    1. Those 24 little mittens and stockings are going to take quite some time to finish, especially since my little bit of stitching bothered my wrist today.

  3. I'm so sorry about your hand problems ... it does rather get in the way of stitching, doesn't it? I hope it isn't terribly painful for you and resolves easily and quickly. Your stocking is darling! Do you use a trapunto-like method to puff out your objects? It's so charming! :)

  4. I hate trying to quilt with those braces on! I have the smaller one and if my hand is hurting a lot (mainly my thumb) I am to wear it. I also have a cyst on the left one but it is not bad enough for surgery and my doctor says sometimes they go away by themselves but I don't think this one well it has been there for several years now but doesn't cause me problems

  5. I have arthritis in my hands also... and my feet, ankles, knees and starting to affect my hips and low back as well! Yikes 2 braces and a cortisone shot! so sorry Cathie... glad you can stitch a bit ...that bear is sweet but be careful and judicious with the time you get to stitch I think! I would hate for you to aggravate it worse!!! Take care my friend ... January will be here soon :) Kathi

    1. I have done this brace routine before when I had a wrist inflammation, but this is a different kind of sharp pain. I really do have to rest it. Thanks for visiting.

  7. I'll be praying for you! I cannot imagine the pain from that shot, I have RA and have skillfully avoided getting any shots anywhere. However, I did appreciate my wrist brace because it stopped the pain. Good luck and keep us updated!!

  9. Definitely not a fun week at your place. Hopefully the shot helped a bit and you were able to get in lots of stitching time. I love the Stitchery in your header. You've been working on that for a while. I missed the finish. Congrats on getting it all finished and framed.
