Mom has been in a rehab facility since last Monday night since leaving the hospital. She needs to get better at walking and taking care of herself. Unfortunately she had another setback on Thursday when she was diagnosed with c-diff. This is a highly contagious infection that requires isolation and a second antibiotic. It probably was a result of the first antibiotic. Prayers are obviously still welcome. I think Mom has a long way to go before she can go home.
I was happily knitting a scarf while sitting with her that I now have to throw out so that I don't risk spreading the infection. Ugh! Better safe than sorry though.
I did finish knitting another one of the Operation Gratitude Scarves at home so that one is safe to donate.
I won't be starting any more as now my time will be really limited what with school and university starting next week.

I found a little time to spend on another craft this week. I was desperately looking for something quick and easy that would occupy my mind and hands and this was it.
I found this neat craft to make these cork pumpkins. You can find a tutorial here.

Hubby and I like a glass of wine every once in a while.....or with dinner....whichever happens more often. As a result I have quite a large cork collection.
Believe me there are plenty more where those came from. This is enough to make three pumpkins.
Ta-da!. They look pretty good don't they. The only thing I had to buy was the felt for the leaves....all of 39 cents.
The little house in Santa's sack got its chimney and I added a gift.
I don't know whether I will get any stitching done today as I need to visit my Mom and make a bunch of meals for the week ahead while Hubby and our son are enjoying a round of golf. It is nice that our son is visiting this weekend. It keeps my mind occupied when I am home.
I am joining Kathy for some Slow Sunday Stitching. She asked us to share a photo of where we stitch when the weather is nice so here is where I sit on my front porch. I usually have a cup of tea or coffee with when the sun is not too hot.
Pop on over to her site to see what other bloggers are stitching and where. I may try to work on Santa's Sack if there is time.

Thanks for stopping by!
you have to throw out the scarf because she has an infection? why would that be - what about the clothing you were wearing - your shoes - see what I mean - wouldn't that include everything then - your purse etc - could you not just wash it instead?
ReplyDeletehope your mother gets better soon
Love your cork pumpkin project.. how cute is that! I have leftover felt from projects like your Christmas project that I could use for felt leaves... how darling are those pumpkins!
ReplyDeleteI also LOVE your photo of where you stitch on your porch :) Thanks for playing along! Have a fun day and holiday weekend before the serious stuff starts back! Kathi
Prayers for your dear mom. She has been through a lot. Does the hospital have an autoclave where then can "cook" that scarf to make it safe? I love the cute pumpkins.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately the scarf wasn't finished and I didn't want to be handling the possibly contaminated yarn that would be difficult to clean. The second scarf was finished and washed before being donated. Thanks for the prayers.
DeleteA lovely place to enjoy some slow stitching!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your cork pumpkins... what a fun creative project!
Big hugs for your Mom and you!
Thank you.
DeleteC diff can be very debilitating, your poor mum! I wish her well. Your pumpkins are very cute and I must say I'm very impressed by your cork collection (you made me smile!)
ReplyDeleteI hope your mom is better soon. She (and you!) did not need this setback. Such a worry. Your pumpkins are so cute and Santa’s sack is filling up. Take care. Hope your transition back to teaching goes well
ReplyDeleteIt is going to be a challenging week. Thanks for visiting. I hope mom is better soon also.
DeleteSorry to hear things aren't good for your Mom, sounds like it could be awhile. Too bad you had to pitch your scarf, it looks very nice. For years I saved my wine corks, kept thinking I would do something with them. Finally threw them out not too long ago. Had tons and them some. Cute pumpkins.

I have made a tray and a hot plate with many of my corks. I've been looking online for some ideas and these pumpkins popped out at me. The scarf on this page is the one I was able to salvage. The other wasn't finished yet and I couldn't wash the yarn.
DeleteIt's rough to see one's mother ill and in rehab. You certainly are going through a busy time. Interesting to see that many stitch outside during nice weather. Hope you were able to accomplish some stitching super cute felt project.
ReplyDeleteYour cork pumpkins are so CUTE!!! I'm so sorry about your mom -- praying she feels better soon and the infection clears up in totality fast. Hugs! :)

These are the cutest pumpkins; thank you for sharing a great idea for fall. So sorry to hear about your dear Mom. My husband had C-diff earlier this summer and it was very scary to say the least. He was given a very strong antibiotic along with probiotics for two weeks and he recovered very well. The medicine made him very tired but it did the job thank goodness. I hope your mother gets well soon. And, that you have a good start to your new school year. Pat xx
ReplyDeleteHope that your mom makes good progress. It is so hard seeing your parents struggle. I love your pumpkin mats!
ReplyDeletesorry your mom had a set back, praying that she gets better!! I bet you are stressed out.
