Started

I just had to get started on "Three Boats". It has been calling to me.
Yesterday, I sat down and put in all the grid lines that I will need for the first 3 pages and then I stitched a few stitches in the upper left corner.
I am stitching this on 18-count Aida cloth to keep the overall size manageable, but I really prefer 14-count. This is going to be quite a long stitching journey. It has started.

Last weekend I finished the ribbon and leaves and started on the second crow of Jingle. Just the head is done.
I will put some more stitches on the body today. I might even finish it, though probably not.

I have almost completed my crocheted hat too.
It is 9 and 1/2 inches long and needs to be 10 inches before I stitch the border row. So close. I should be able to finish it very soon. I can't believe that it has taken me so long, but the arthritis in both my hands has been very limiting. Once the hat is done, I can go back to working on the scarf.

I am joining Kathy for some Slow Sunday Stitching. Pop on over to her site to see what other bloggers are stitching.

Thanks for stopping by!

  1. I hope the exercise of crochet is helping your arthritic hangs. Really exercise does help it just goes slower because of the pain. The cross stitch looks like a pretty piece

  3. Oh my your new project looks very challenging. I can see where that would take awhile. Can't wait to see Snowman completed and it won't be long your hat will be done. I am working with 16ct and 18ct and I prefer the 18. I also want to try Linen or at least some evenweave. Nice to have something to look forward to

  4. Have you tried any of those special crochet hooks to see if helps your hands? I haven't myself, but have heard good reviews about them. Have gotten so I knit more now than crochet because it bothers the arthritis less. The hat is such a pretty color, good luck getting it finished. The tropical boats looks awesome. Right now especially with it being cold, gray, ugly and snow on the ground...beach, boats and sun sounds heavily. You'll have fun with that project. I've never used grid lines before when doing x-stitch do you always do that? Please swing by for a visit and happy stitching.

    1. I have the ergonomic crochet hooks, but they don't help me too much. I think I will be ordering some of the handmade ones from Tooshaycrochet as they look like they have an even wider grip that might help. I have also adjusted how I hold the hook, but it still bothers my thumb. I have also found that knit bothers me less than crochet. As for the cross-stitch, I use grid lines for these large projects, because it is 300 x 242 stitches and it is very easy to get lost. I make my boxes 10 x 10 so that I can find where I am. On smaller project, I just wing it. Thanks for visiting.

  5. Hopefully, you accomplished good stitching progress. I appreciate the gird line mention as I have been thinking that would be beneficial and less eye strain. An ergonomic crochet hook was not helpful personally. Little timeouts work best for myself.
