Update

After a week in the hospital and five weeks in a rehabilitation facility, Mom is home. She is not as independent as she was in August and we are in the midst of coordinating aides to help her out. I wanted to thank everyone for their well-wishes.

Last weekend Hubby and managed to make a short overnight trip to Boston to attend our daughter and her fiance's housewarming and to meet her fiance's parents. Here we are with the happy couple.

It was a great party, but the drives there and back were awful. On Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m. the normal half hour drive to get off Long Island over one of two bridges took over an hour. Then there was construction on Interstate 95 that further delayed us. What should have been about a four hour drive, give or take, took five hours. We were trying to arrive early as we were bringing a cooler, but we at least arrived right on time. Going home Sunday afternoon we encountered numerous roads with accidents on them. I used Waze to navigate around them, but at one point there were accidents and delays on every possible route. We spent 6 hours in the car to return home. Ugh!

Yesterday I made a whole bunch of food to package for Hubby and I and for my Mom and MIL. Here is a big pot of Meatballs and Sausage simmering on the stove. I want to cook some other freezer worthy items today so we have some easy weeknight meals and so does my Mom when I can't be at her home to get her meals.
I also finally found a few minutes to add one measly piece to the Advent Calendar. Santa's sack finally got its brim.
I am hoping to work on this a little more today. The teddy bear in the sack between the house and the gift is the next item to add.

I am joining Kathy for some Slow Sunday Stitching. Pop on over to her site to see what other bloggers are stitching. I think I will make a cup of tea and go visit right now.

Thanks for stopping by!

  2. Traffic delays can be very trying...the important thing is you made it there and back safely. Glad to hear your Mom is home. We try to do some cooking with leftovers on the weekend for easy meals during the week. So nice for your Mom to have some home cooked meals too. Santa’s sack is filling up!

  4. Good news about your mum. It is so stressful when you are going somewhere and you get stuck in traffic. But the family photo is lovely (your daughter looks like you!) the Advent calendar is looking so good!

  5. So happy to hear your Mom is home, hope things go well for you. I found making mini meatloaves, cooking them, and cutting then before freezing a wonder item for when my Dad came home from the hospital. A mini loaf makes about 4 good slices so dinner one night and a sandwich the next day. It holds up well in the freezer. I did double wrap with wax paper and then foil so it couldn't stick to the foil, the put them in zip lock bags. Salmon patties were another stand by. I didn't fry them, but baked them on a cooking sheet. Pretty quick and again they freeze well. Your stitching makes me smile, so cute. So nice you were able to get away, sorry you had to contend with traffic. Yikes. Changed my profile to one from our recent travels.

  6. when we go to boston from here, it is aweful, cuz of connecticut, then of course Mass turnpike. I love living in the country but I pine for city stuff until I drive in city stuff then I want my wilderness!!

The couple and you two look great together!

Glad your mom is home, but I bet it's still stressful managing the aides.

  7. We had some awful traffic delays after the recent hurricane in our area and I am not very patient. I am glad you made it through. I like the little Santa piece; it's coming to life.

  8. Long hours travelling are never fun and even more problematic when there are traffic delays. Though, how wonderful you were able to join in the celebrations at the "happy couple's" house warming. The Advent stitching is overspilling with fun. There is so much pretty detail to look at. I hope your mom improves with each day/week.

  10. I relate to your life Cathie... I'm in the same boat... trying to be there for the kids and take care of the parents. I spent yesterday cooking and packaging meals also. Hope you had some time to relax and stitch.

  16. Cathie: So happy your Mother is back home, rehab is so tough.
I am like you I like to make food ahead of time and freeze it, especially chili yum.
I bet sitting in traffic is horrible, we live in the country and do not have that problem, we used to and I do not miss it.
Cathie: You and your daughter look like sisters.
Congratulations on the home to them.
