I hope that I am back blogging for a while, but I'm not so sure. My laptop has spent a good amount of time in the shop and is still not back to normal, so there is no guarantee that I will be able to be back blogging consistently. That being said, I need to quickly give you some crafting updates.
I have made great strides stitching Baker Beach. I finally finished the 7th page out of 10. I have also gotten a really good start on the 8th page.
Unfortunately, all that wonderful stitching is on somewhat of a hold right now, because I aggravated a trigger finger problem in my right hand. My palm is now swollen and sore. I have a doctor's appointment scheduled for next week to get a shot of cortisone in my palm. That is definitely not something I am looking forward to. You may recall that I had this happen last year too. I have a feeling that I will eventually need surgery to fix this problem once and for all. (I had the surgery on my left hand when I was a teen many moons ago) That will have to wait until summer if it is necessary.
I have also been knitting my shawl.
It is almost done.
This is probably another reason why my hand is hurting.

I am now doing a whole lot of reading....no computer, no crafting, so that leaves books. I have recently read The Silent Sister, by Diane Chamberlain and Orphan Train, by Christina Baker Kline. Although both of these books are a little dark in their story line, I really liked them. They are two totally different types of books, but both contain a sad family story with secrets. They were on my list to read for quite some time and I am glad that I finally read them. I would highly recommend them. They each have short chapters that keep your interest. I am now reading The Runaway Quilt by Jennifer Chiaverini. This is the fourth book of the Elm Street Quilt series. I am enjoying this easy read series immensely.
I will be joining Kathy for some Slow Sunday Stitching this week. I am hoping to put a few stitches in on Baker Beach. I will also hopefully be joining the Stitchery Link Party on Monday at Super Mom - No Cape. Pop on over to these sites to see what other bloggers are stitching.
I hope I can regularly keep in touch.

Just beautiful stitchery work--amazing..and that scarf is lovely--I like the graduating colors..sorry about your finger--I have a similar problem with my left thumb which knitting aggravates--(actually holding anything with thumb and forefinger does!!) so I have to work a little at a time which drives me crazy--I used to knit ALL DAY..and so it goes--hope yours gets better really soon hugs, Julierose

Great strides in Baker Beach!!! It looks fabulous. It is no wonder that you have the hand issues with all that tedious stitching you have been doing.

ReplyDeleteBoth projects are coming along nicely. I'm not a good reader right now. I stick to short things like magazines. I always have something to sew in my to-go bag and a quilt magazine instead of a book these days.

ReplyDeleteThe shawl is absolutely gorgeous. I love it! I also have hand/wrist problems that like to flair up when I crochet or cross stitch. I use an essential oil called Deep Relief from Young Living to help with the swelling and the pain.
ReplyDeleteOh, I hope the injection helps, no fun at all to have that done. Your cross stitch is looking wonderful! I've read the entire Elm Creek Quilts series and enjoyed it a lot, though I like the present day stories more than the historical ones. If you enjoy mysteries, try Monica Ferris Needlecraft series. Oh, and if you haven't read Marie Bostwick's Cobbled Court Quilting series, it is wonderful!

ReplyDeleteThe cross stitch is so wonderful. You've really put a lot of work into it. The shawl is really lovely. The stitch you've chosen is lacy and sweet and the ombre yarn choice makes it look terrific.

ReplyDeleteI get things seized up in my hands sometimes and have a few carpal tunnel and sports braces that go on when that happens and I do the same thing...stop sewing and READ! :)
And I have learned to be careful...if I am using the hand to trim bushes, then give it a break and no applique, etc. Learned the hard way of course! :)

Cathi I'm sorry you're having problems with that finger - the same thing had happened to my friend who is 85 now. She just had surgery a month ago and is doing well. She doesn't stitch but she knits and she plays the organ for her chapel and both are critical to her. That shawl is stunning! blessings, marlene
