Getting ready for Spring

Do you see how much I've been able to stitch? Friday was my birthday and I wasn't called to sub so I was able to spend some time doing just what I wanted.
The flowers are finished and the butterflies just need their bodies. I am almost done with the second border.
Spring Angel still needs her wings and the word Spring. I also have to complete all the back-stitching. I don't mind that though because then I can watch the picture just pop. Now I know that she will be done in time for Spring.

Speaking of Spring. Look at the beautiful tea light holder my daughter gave me for my birthday. I love the pretty lavender flower.

One hat done, another on the way

I finished a hat for my MIL. I used some worsted weight yarn that I had in my stash.
She loves it. It turns out that she has a fairly new maroon coat that I didn't know about. How is that for coincidence?

I have started a hat for my mom next. This will be another crocheted hat as that is quicker for me. I am using sport weight yarn which will go just a little slower than the last hat. I wonder if it will get any use this winter?

I am joining Ginny for Yarn Along today. What are you knitting/crocheting? What are you reading? Pop on over to her site to see what other bloggers are up to.

I finished reading The Forgotten Garden by Kate Morton. I really love the way she spins a story. There are ins and outs and a little mystery along the way. I haven't started another book as I just don't have the time.

Spring Weather

We are having a short spell of Spring weather. It makes me realize that I have to get to finishing my Spring Angel. Her wings are outlined and the first row of the border is almost completed.
I will work on the lighter border next and then start the flowers or butterflies.
I know that filling in the wings and stitching the word Spring will take the most time.

The sun is out and the temps are supposed to be in the 50's today. Hopefully Hubby and I can take a walk in our local preserve and enjoy the spring-like weather.

Hat request

My MIL requested a hat for herself and for my FIL. This is the hat that I have started for my MIL.

The pattern is from a long ago Hooked on Crochet magazine. I hope she likes it.
I have yarn to make a hat for my FIL. His will be a knit. I have made this same hat for my Hubby and my son.
I also want to make a hat for my mom. I found a crocheted pattern for her hat because she wants a fold-up rim. I will leave off the pom-pom.
I bought this yarn on sale, but I think I may go back for another color. I thought her coat was grey, but it is beige. I can't believe that I forgot the color of her coat. I might use this yarn for myself. I do like the pattern that I chose. Oh well, I can't complain about another trip to the craft store.

I am joining Ginny for Yarn Along. What are you knitting/crocheting? What are you reading? As for my reading, I am still in the midst of The Forgotten Garden, by Kate Morton. I have been so tired at night lately that I haven't gotten any bedtime reading done. I will finish it soon, because I really like it.

Spring Angel's Halo

My Spring Angel has her halo. Now I am working on the outline of her wings. After that I think the flowers are next or maybe the border. The outline of the wings will help me get to the border without making a mistake. I always leave the white of the wings for last so that it doesn't get dirty.
She is stitching up pretty quickly.

I think I will sit with a new favorite tea and spend some time working on her on this Valentine's Day.
The tea was a Christmas gift and I have to admit it is a really tasty Earl Grey.

Hubby and I are staying home for Valentine's Day. Both of our birthdays are in February so we usually have a quiet Valentine's Day. We have had a few unfortunate V-day dining experiences so we avoid the added expense and the crowds now. We enjoyed a dinner out with our daughter (who was visiting from Boston) on Friday and celebrated Hubby's birthday yesterday.

Wouldn't this be a great birthday present for me if I won?
Check out this floss giveaway from Victorian Motto Sampler Shoppe. All you need to do is pick your favorite color set to be entered.

Mom's vest is finished!

I finally, finally put the finishing touches on Mom's vest. I wove in all the ends and added the buttons. To top it all off, this vest actually fits her!

This pattern was so easy that I would definitely make it again.

I am happily reading The Forgotten Garden by Kate Morton. This was a Christmas gift from my own Kate, my daughter (we actually call her Katie or Katelyn). I have read it before, but I am enjoying it all over again. I really like the way Kate Morton writes.

Stitching Here and There

So far this weekend I have managed to do a little stitching here and a little stitching there. Spring Angel has her face, hands and some of her hair.
The bottom right corner of the 4th page of Baker Beach is slowly getting filled in. Here is my last update.
This is how it looks this morning.
There are still a whole lot of different colored browns to fill in. The end of this page is in sight though now so I am really happy to be working on this consistently. I want to move on to the next page that you can see started at the top right of the picture.

Snow Day!

So we had a whole lot more snow last week, but today I got a snow day. I was supposed to sub today, but school was closed due to the latest snow storm. We were supposed to get between 3-5 inches. We definitely got more than that.
My poor dogwood tree has a lot of heavy clumping snow on it.
The cars are covered once again.
Below, the snow had stopped and the shoveling was done. Our streets had yet to be plowed. A blue sky emerged. That's Hubby watching me take the picture (or checking out the roof).
So what did I do with my unexpected time off. I opened up the sewing machine and made up 32 of these squares.

They are the centers of one of two different types of squares for my Royal Squares Quilt. I'm still not sure about the maroon/purple solid fabric, but I am going with it none the less. I made the decision to go with it months ago and I am sticking with it. I'm sure that I will be pleased when the quilt is all put together.

Now that Hubby and I have finished snow-blowing and shoveling the snow, I think I am going to make some cookies (chocolate chip sounds good).
The first batch of chocolate chip cookies were in the oven when I made myself some hot chocolate. I love having mini-marshmallows in my hot chocolate.

I hope to get some cross-stitching in this afternoon. My Spring Angel needs a little more love.

This is definitely a really good snow day!
