Quilt Dilemma

Here we are in mid-August and I am wondering where the summer has gone along with all my big crafting plans. I have a dilemma. A few posts ago I shared this jelly roll
and this quilt
as my next quilting project. All I needed was to find some fabric to use where the white is in the picture.
I went shopping and came home with two options.
Looking at the fabric in the jelly roll, I realized that it is almost all either medium or light in value. Although I originally wanted to use the cream color (which is actually a small pin dot), I'm seriously considering the maroon (which is brighter than in the picture) to give the quilt some needed contrast. Any thoughts? I would appreciate your input.

I will be joining Kathy for some Slow Sunday Stitching today. I plan to concentrate on my Prairie Schooler Santa. I hope to finish this one and maybe start on another.
Monday I will join the Stitchery Link Party at Super Mom - No Cape. Please visit these sites to see what other bloggers are stitching.

I will leave you with a beautiful rainbow outside my home that was the result of a brief and surprising sun shower.

It was actually a double rainbow, but the second one was too light for my camera to catch.

Thanks for stopping by!

  1. I would pick the maroon because the jelly roll fabrics would show up better...more contrast. How many Santas are there? This one is looking good! Happy stitching!

  7. Totally the maroon! Looks like there are a couple of strips that you'd have to use for binding because they would be too dark, but I think this will make a great quilt!
    Enjoy your Santa stitching today!

  8. I think the maroon also, although to be sure you could make up a block of each and then decide? Lovely fabrics!

  10. I really do like the maroon, but you could always make a test block before you commit to make sure you will love it too.

  11. Although white is always striking for a quilt, I think the maroon would be just stunning. Maybe you could make one or two blocks and see if you like it?

  15. Hello Cathie! I like the maroon too.... I think it will make a much more exciting quilt.... unless you want a more low volume quilt, in which case use the cream! Beautiful rainbow photographs! Christine x

  17. You've probably already made your choice since I'm late getting around to visiting everyone but I'd choose the maroon to go with the fabric for that quilt.

Your Prairie Schooner Santa is coming along lovely.

Thanks for linking up to last week's Stitchery Link Party and for the link back. Aloha hugs!
