Lots or Reading

Okay, right now I seem to have too much of everything lined up.
On top of the 3 cross-stitch projects, knitted vest and crocheted Granny Squares, I have now started a crocheted bookmark.
I started it two days ago. You would think it would be finished by now. I seem to have an aversion to finishing my WIPs right now. I am slowly working on Mom's vest.
I still haven't finished the ribbing. I think it is time for me to start concentrating on just one project and finish it.
I am similarly flush with reading material.
One of the staff members at the school where I worked brought in several shopping bags full of books that she was clearing out of her house. I took a few for some summer reading. Sorry about the blurry picture.
I finally finished The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins. I so wanted to like this oft-recommended book, but I just didn't. As I said before, there wasn't a single likable character in this book. Nobody to root for, nobody to feel sad or happy about. As for it being a gripping thriller, I just didn't think so. I slogged through this book. Some fellow bloggers told me there was a twist at the end. I figured it out. I can now say that I read this book, but i wouldn't recommend it.

I have also finished The True Love Quilting Club by Lori Wilde. This is a romance novel that I realized early on I had read previously. Never mind, after The Girl on the Train I needed something really light and easy to read.
This is a heartwarming story with likable characters that is the perfect summer read.
Now I have to decide whether to read one of the books in the pile pictured above or this:
My daughter gave me this book for Christmas and I think this will be up next.
I am joining Ginny for Yarn Along today. What are you knitting/crocheting? What are you reading? Pop on over to her site to see what other bloggers are up to.

Thanks for stopping by!

  1. I like the idea of a crochet bookmark, but I don't think I have the patience for yarn that thin!!

    1. Thanks Emma, the crochet thread can be difficult to work with sometimes, but it is not too bad for a small bookmark.

  3. Books, my nemesis. I wish I'd never bought myself a Kindle as I've so many books on there that I just haven't got around to reading yet. I'm terrible for listening to a play/dramatisation on the radio and then downloading the book, or series of books from the author. I think I'm going to be like the Eygptians and buried with my Kindle so I'll have something to do in the Afterlife. It's the only way I'm going to get time to read everything.

  5. Such a great idea, a crochet book mark, they would make a lovely gift with a book.

  6. My grandmother would crochet with that ultra thin yard (almost like thread) and made the most beautiful things. I'm curious to see if you like House at Riverton. I was thinking of reading it myself.

    1. I have made doilies with this crochet thread before. I loved the last Kate Morton book that I read, so I am looking forward to reading this one.

  8. My mom would have loved the idea of making a crochet bookmark. She was always trying to find new ideas to make gifts for the people she liked! And yours is looking lovely
I don't do crochet at all. I tend to make a hole in the finger of the hand holding the work!!!
I'm reading a french book called "Metronome" by Lorant Deutsch, the history of Paris through some of its underground stops. Amusing and a way to "travel" by some of the stops I know!

  10. Love the bookmark. I think I will not bother with Girl on the Train, but I like the look of your other two books.

  11. And I just looked up the True Love Quilting Club and it is the second book in a series - the first is about knitting! Sounds perfect to me.

  12. I've started some larger projects lately and I seem to have trouble finishing them. While I'm not starting any more large projects until my present ones are done, I don't seem to feel at all guilty over making small projects - which doesn't help at all.

  14. love morton's books :) Now I will think twice about the train book! I did not like Gillian Flynn's books at all, too edgy and too suspenseful for my tender heart. So if Train is like hers....well I'll take a pass. lovely projects!

  15. I too have too many WIPs in both knit and crochet. It’s nice when I get sick of something and want to change it up but sometimes it ends up taking me forever to finish! I love the yarns you use and the lacy work in the first pic is really nice. As for books, I have a lot on the go to as a bunch just came into the library all at once. It’s going to be a reading weekend!
