For Mother's Day last Sunday, I made a Double Coconut Cream pie from a small Better Homes and Gardens pamphlet that I have had for years.
Oh my, it was delicious! It was a better treat for Mother's Day than any store bought dessert. I even managed to make a decent pie crust by following the recipe. I usually have trouble with them.
I am still working on the granny square baby blanket. All of the squares are completed and a layout has been determined.
I have sewn together the bottom row since this photo was taken.
As a result I have yet to start quilting the Churn Dash quilt, but I have made a determination as to how I will quilt some of it. I found this table runner that my mom pieced and quilted. I didn't even realize I had it when I decided to look at some of the other table runners that she made to get inspiration.
I am going to quilt the Churn Dash blocks in the same manner with these flosses.
My mom always used DMC floss for her quilting. The quilting on the cross blocks is still to be decided.
Cinnamon House has a few more motifs completed.
There is another bird and flower still to stitch along the bottom.
I've been taking advantage of the warmer but cloudy weather and washing windows when I am not crafting. So far all the windows on my first floor have been cleaned and the curtains washed and rehung. Did you ever hear the saying "Outside side to side, inside up and down"? I read it somewhere years ago to help determine where a window streak might be. I wash the outside of the windows using a side to side motion and the inside of the windows using an up and down motion so that if there are streaks, I know if they are inside or out. I remember the saying because "inside" and "down" both have the letter "n". There are still 13 windows on my second floor that I would like to clean this Spring. All but one are double hung windows that tilt inside, making cleaning them fairly simple. We can no longer remove the screens on the second floor windows as they are difficult to get back in since the house has settled over 20+ years. They would need to be pushed in from the outside which is not happening.
I will be joining Frederique at the Quilting Patch on Saturday and Kathy for some Slow Sunday Stitching. Take some time to relax with a cup of tea or coffee and pop on over to their sites to see what other bloggers are stitching.
Thanks for stopping by!
That looks like a delicious Mother’s Day pie! How many strands of floss will you be using for your churn dash quilting. I have tied a quilt with embroidery floss but I have never quilted with it. Window washing is on the list here too. Gail at the cozy quilter
ReplyDeleteYour coconut cream pie sounds divine! Today is my birthday and I'm baking myself a lemon/lime cake which is a new recipe. I like your plan that you will take to quilt the churn dash table runner. Your mom is smiling with your choice! I too follow that plan for washing windows although I didn't know the ditty!--TerryK@OnGoingProjects
ReplyDeleteOh, I hope that cake turns out well. I do love lemon cakes. I am sure the lime will just add to it. I thought it would be nice to finish the quilt as my mom would have. Happy Birthday!
DeleteLooks yummy.
ReplyDeletelovely stitching , Enjoy your weekend.
What a lovely coconut cream pie!! Crust can be tricky. I usually make it with oil. Cinnamon House is looking so cute. I've started some window washing, but I better pour on the steam after reading what you've done already!
ReplyDeleteI have never heard the saying re cleaning the windows. Makes sense though. More often than not there seems to be a streak or two when the sun shines on my windows. That Double Coconut Cream pie does look delicious. I'm guessing you'll bake this again. =) The arrangement of the granny square baby blanket looks fabulous. Enjoy cleaning the rest of the windows....I don't envy you.
ReplyDeleteYour pie looks delicious, Cathie! Homemade is almost always the best for treats like that. I've hand quilted with DMC perle cotton, but not with regular embroidery floss. You'll have to show us how it goes. Your window washing project sounds impressive! We have that on our spring to-do list, too. I'll have to remember your saying for outside vs inside.
ReplyDeleteYour Mom's runner is beautiful, it's a great idea to quilt your block the same way. Cinnamon House is coming along nicely, cute little birds! I'm not very good at washing windows, my husband does it and he does a great job! Thank you for sharing your projects and linking up.
ReplyDeleteYour pie looks delicious, and home made beats store bought any day, in my opinion! How nice that you have some items made by your mother.
ReplyDeletecome wash my windows, lol!! that pie looks so delicious!!
ReplyDeleteI have always gotten a wonderful sense of satisfaction with having clean windows. That pie was wonderful.
Deletethe last time i washed all the windows inside and out we had to replace the roof (and it won't be paid for for another ten years) - which is as good an excuse as any to NOT - ha ha ha!!!
ReplyDeletemy sister always wants coconut creme pie for her birthday - or a Pepperidge Farm coconut cake (ooo!!! that sounds good) - and it's always close to Mothers Day, so that would be perfect ... maybe next year (if we're speaking to each other by then)
