In past posts I’ve shared photos of the biking/walking trail through the Massapequa Preserve that hubby and I like to walk on. We haven't been there in a while due to my knee issues.
There is an entrance about a mile east of our home that we use. We usually walk south through the woods to a pond near one of the local high schools. If we were to walk north 2.5 miles, the path leads to Bethpage State Park where the Ryder Cup is being played this weekend. No, we are not attending. In past years, Hubby has played golf with our son on the green and blue courses at Bethpage though in recent years he has found it near impossible to get a tee time. What used to be a simple process has fallen victim to computer bots since COVID. Hubby has a nearly unusable gift card due to this problem.
Regardless, we will be staying close to home this weekend listening to the security and VIP helicopters flying overhead and watching on TV.
That makes for more crafting time! As if I don’t have enough already. I said I would show you my granny squares when they were done and here they are.
I laid them out in 17 rows of 13 squares and then gathered each row on a knitting needle to keep them in order. I have 17 granny square kebabs.
Two of the rows have already been assembled.
There’s not much progress on the hat. I work on it while on the computer so it should grow as I read other blogs this weekend.
Except for some, backstitching, the bear is done on my granddaughter’s Christmas stocking. I’m working my way up the stocking now, adding the backstitching as I go.
The purple block has some of its quilting now.
Last Saturday, we finally had a new washer and dryer delivered. The heating element in the dryer only worked intermittently. The washer had only worked on a few of its cycles for several years. Since we had to move a bunch of storage containers in the basement to make room for the delivery, I decided to start cutting out the fabric for another I-Spy quilt. One of the boxes contained all of my novelty fabrics so of course it made sense to start yet another project. I made up the design based on something I had seen on the internet.
I still have to cut the white and black fabrics. Each black and white nine-patch will have a solid colored fabric in the center. I have plenty of scraps for that.
I finished reading Switchboard Soldiers, by Jennifer Chiaverini and I highly recommend it. I’ve moved on from WWI to WWII and am now reading The Dressmaker’s Gift by Fiona Valpy. So far I am enjoying this book.
From the photo above, you can see that I have slowly started to decorate for Autumn. I have a couple of little displays done.
There is still more to unpack.
I am joining Frederique at the Quilting Patch today and Kathy for some Slow Sunday Stitching tomorrow. I hope you take some time to relax with some tea or coffee and pop on over to their sites to see what other bloggers are stitching.
Thanks for stopping by!
What a fun new project with all those interesting novelty prints! It is sad that your hubby can't play the golf course. COVID continues to affect our lives. Happy stitching--TerryK@OnGoingProjects
ReplyDeleteYes, it will be fun to use these prints in a different design than I used for my other two grandchildren.
DeleteCute teddy bear on the stocking! Isn’t it fun to make an I spy quilt? Canada Post is on strike so I can’t send you any I spy squares this time. What a lovely place to walk. I hope your knee is better soon so you can enjoy your walks again. That’s a lot of granny squares! I like your shish kabobs! Gail at the cozy quilter
ReplyDeleteAll your projects are coming along, those granny squares are impressive! Love the teddy bear, and the quilting on the Ball. Your new project sounds fun, you have fabulous novelty fabrics! Thank you for sharing your inspiring work and linking up.
ReplyDeleteI hope your knee improves soon so you can get back to walking again. I noticed yesterday when I went to the store the pumpkins were out but I will wait to get any for decorating for a couple more weeks I think it is still around 80 most days outside I prefer it to be cooler before I put pumpkins on the porch
ReplyDeleteThat looks a lovely place to walk, although maybe not while the golf is on. I think Europe might be the winners this year. That’s a lot of fun novelty fabric you have ready to go! Sarah quilting by the sea
ReplyDeleteThe preserve is very nice. Europe did win again this year, but at least the US players put up a fight on Sunday.

ReplyDeleteMassapequa Preserve must be lovely to walk through, especially in Fall. I hope it won't be too long till you can again. Lots of pretty granny squares. How inventive to corrale them in groups on knitting needles. So clever. Another fun I-Spy quilt. I love the design you are going to make.
Granny square kebabs, I like the sound of that! Of course you had to start a new project, you've done a lot of cutting so far.
ReplyDeletebummer about the tee times, it's like trying to get a doctor appointment lol. You have so many projects going at the same time!! I have three right now.
ReplyDeleteI have no trouble getting doctor's appointments. My husband had now given up on getting to use his gift card. They don't accept it in the pro-shop, only for golf rounds.Three projects would probably be a better idea, but I get bored easily. I have 7 or 8 projects to work on right now.
DeleteYour first photo is really beautiful! Your projects are amazing! Warm greetings from Montreal, Canada.
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteHi Cathie: The Granny Square afghan is lovely, you have made so many of them, the color yarns are lovely. The hat yarn is very pretty, that Teddy Bear is adorable, looks like you will have it finished by Christmas. Windows Into My World is such an amazing quilt, I bet you are happy to be so close to the finish. Looking forward to seeing the new quilt start, thank-you for the recommendation on the book, I am an avid reader. Beautiful fall displays.

Wonderful update on your projects, Cathie. Loved seeing all the crochet blocks. Also loved seeing the wonderful blueberry lemon cake in your last post, a favourite of mine.
