We made a trip to California last Saturday to celebrate our grandson’s 3rd birthday. We had a wonderful visit that included a trip to the local playground and local beach.
There were some really cute baby ground squirrels at the beach.
A highlight for the grandchildren was watching the recycling truck pick up the trash outside their apartment window. It doesn't take much to amuse toddlers.
On the flight to CA I added a few stitches to Cinnamon House.
Two more motifs have been completed. I would have done more, but I was enjoying the movie Nottinghill. It is a favorite of mine.
We came home Wednesday night and Thursday was spent doing laundry and grocery shopping. I did manage to finally finish the scrappy baby blanket. It will be put aside for future donation.
The directions called for a ruffled edge, but I didn’t have enough white yarn left, nor did I like the ruffle idea so I just used one row of single crochet and one of double crochet.
I had just enough yarn.
I downloaded a few books for the trip. I read A Resistance of Witches by Morgan Ryan.
This is her first novel and it was wonderful. It is set during WWII, but is not really a war novel. I look forward to reading any future books the she writes. I finished it quickly and am now reading The Darkling Bride: A Novel by Laura Andersen. I like it so far.
I will be joining Kathy for some Slow Sunday Stitching. Take some time to relax with a cup of tea or coffee and pop on over to their sites to see what other bloggers are stitching.
Thanks for stopping by!

your blanket is sooo delicate and sweet....
ReplyDeleteI love Nottinghill too! I’ve watched it several times. Your crocheted blanket is lovely. The border is perfect and I love the colours. Looks like you had a wonderful visit with your son and his family. Take care. Gail at the cozy quilter.
ReplyDeleteLove your idea of a scrappy baby blanket ready for donating as needed. Littles like trucks of all kinds.
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday to the little one! Your blanket is beautiful, serene colors, I love it!
ReplyDeleteThe crocheted blanket is so pretty!
ReplyDeleteLooks like it was a nice trip for you - happy birthday to your little guy! The crocheted blanket is a really pretty finish. I'm not familiar with the book you mentioned, but the title got my attention. I'll have to see if our library has it!
ReplyDeleteHow lovely to spend birthday time with your grandson. I have to ask, squirrels on the beach, is that usual? You did say ground squirrels, are they different from tree squirrels? There are no squirrels here in New Zealand, so I really don't know. I love your pretty crochet blanket too.
ReplyDeleteThe movie Notting Hill is a favourite of mine, also. I'm amazed airlines in the US allow hand stitching on a plane. Needles don't make it through security here in Australia. Such a pity. How wonderful you were able to vacation with your family and celebrate your grandson's third birthday. Haven't those three years sped by?? It's lovely to see you all enjoying those special times. I've never thought of squirrels on a beach. I've always seen them scampering up trees. =) The baby blanket is so pretty, and the border you chose is perfect for those crochet squares. Enjoy your stitching today, Cathie.
ReplyDeletemy youngest grandson always liked watching the trash truck - but his favorite was the "PBS" truck (big brown van with yellow letters that did include a P and S - ha ha ha ) - your grandbabies are so sweet!!!
ReplyDeleteWunderbare Momente habt ihr als Familie erlebt.
ReplyDeleteSo schön deine Babydecke. Mir gefällt der einfache Rand schön zu dem Muster und den Farben.
Herzliche Grüße sendet dir
Petra
We had a great family visit. I am glad you like the baby blanket. I thought a simple border would be best as I was running out of yarn.
DeleteWhat fun you had with your loved ones.
ReplyDeleteLove the blanket , Hugs June.
holy smokes three! time goes so quickly! I'm glad you had a good visit and was able to be with them.
ReplyDeleteThe time goes way too quickly. Now we have a toddler and two preschoolers. No more babies. A lot of fun to visit them though.
