Olympic crafting

I love watching as many Olympic sports as possible. Skiing, snowboarding, ice skating, speed skating, curling! They are so much fun! Since I am still dealing with a head cold, I haven’t been feeling like leaving the house and venturing out into the cold weather. The Olympics are a great distraction. We are no longer in the deep freeze, but it is still Winter and the snow that fell three weeks ago is still on the ground.

My days have been spent drinking lots of fluids, watching TV as well as quilting or knitting. The background of Having a Ball is about halfway quilted.

I am really enjoying the process. I’m pleased with the quilting.

The first of two socks is completed. It is not perfect, but it fits.

The second sock is well on its way and is definitely looking better than the first. I can see myself knitting more socks in the future with a better yarn. This yarn is somewhat scratchy, but it is a good yarn for a first try.

One of my few outings this week was to a local quilt shop to get fabric to back the I-Spy quilt. It is the same fabric that I used for the other two I-Spy quilts that I made.

Hubby’s birthday was on Thursday. It was a small celebration.

I will be joining Frederique at the Quilting Patch on Saturday and Kathy for some Slow Sunday Stitching. I hope you take some time to relax with some tea, coffee or hot chocolate and pop on over to their sites to see what other bloggers are stitching.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Thanks for stopping by!

  2. The cross hatch quilting on Having a Ball is looking great. Sorry to hear you have a cold. Hope you feel better soon. We love watching the olympics too. You will soon have a pair of warm socks! I need to learn how to make socks! Gail at the cozy quilter.

  3. Happy Valentine's Day, Cathie;)))
I love your "Having a Ball" piece--so amazing!! Your quilting looks great on it.
We've mostly been able to view Olympic Skating and Downhill, both of which I love. We haven't as yet been able to see any curling as we get our tv "over the air"--so very weather dependent.
Still a lot of snow pack on the ground here too..and despite the advertised "warming trend" it still feels pretty cold to me!! Hope your cold is better....I think some lovely dark chocolate will help it a lot hahaha...
    Have a great weekend...hugs, Julierose

  4. I can see why you are happy with your quilting. It looks great. What a fun quilt. The backing fabric you selected is perfect for an I Spy quilt. Your sock and a part look good to me.

  5. That backing fabric is so perfect for an eye spy quilt, no wonder you’re using it again :) Hope this finds you continuing to recover.

  8. Pretty green socks. I admire sock knitters. I tried and failed miserably. Great backing for an I Spy quilt. How you are on the mend. “Drink lots of water”, is our family’s wintertime motto.

  9. Happy Birthday to your hubby! The grid quilting on Having a Ball looks wonderful. That and knitting do seem like the perfect craft for watching the Olympics. Hope you're feeling better this week, Cathie!

  10. How perfect the Winter Olympics are on while you are suffering a cold. It makes for a lot of stitching. The cross hatch quilting is looking superb. Goodness, you've done a lot. I would imagine scratchy wool for socks would be a little uncomfortable. Good job on finishing your first sock. I hope that head cold disappears soon.

  11. Your "Having a Ball" quilt is spectacular -- and all that quilting. It is going to be fabulous when done. Your sock reminds me I have a second sock half finished. And I'll have to do some serious detective work to figure out where I am in the pattern. Sigh. Yours look good. It's been so cold in the mid Atlantic states that I've been wearing wool socks a lot.
