I’m not starting any new crafts right now, but I did decide that the pillow in the header is finished. This was another of those small printed panels that I received from a friend’s mom. I made it into a pillow and I was considering adding a braided yarn border, but I am happy with how it looks as it is, so I’m declaring this finished.
There has been some progress on my granddaughter’s stocking. There are more stitches on the wall next to the little girl and the tree is still growing. You can also see the latest hair sample.
It is better than the last one though I have ideas for a few tweaks. Thank you to Kim from Sarah Lizzies who steered me to some Pinterest ideas.
The blue block has been quilted.
The polar bear hat has ears and a muzzle all crocheted. All that is left is assembly.
Why is it that I delay assembling some crafts? I’m usually surprised at how easy the final assembly is.
The baby blanket has 11 of the 17 rows completed. No photo this week.
Does anyone make meatballs like this?
I spread the meatball mixture out into a rectangle on a plastic cutting board and then cut it into the desired number of meatballs. Then I roll each one. I saw this method years ago in a cook book and I have made my meatballs this way ever since. It helps to keep them uniform in size. This is the final result
You can see that it has been made often by the stains on the page. The recipe comes from a PTA cookbook. I got 45 small meatballs this time which easily makes 4 meals for the two of us. I froze half of the meatballs without the gravy. We ate one quarter and the rest went to my mother in law with the rest of the gravy that I made. There is plenty of gravy for all of the meatballs, but it doesn't get loose again once it is frozen, so it is just as easy to make new when I take out a package of the frozen meatballs.
There were elections in some states here this week. I’m feeling a little more hopeful for our democracy than I did before.
I’m starting to plan out our Thanksgiving dinner. It will just be Hubby, me and my mother in law. I think I will make a turkey breast for the first time…if I can find one. Any links to tasty recipes would be appreciated. We will be celebrating with our daughter and her in-laws prior to the actual holiday. Our son invited us also, but I need to avoid the long plane ride right now. They will be coming to visit us around Christmas.
I am joining Frederique at the Quilting Patch today and Kathy for some Slow Sunday Stitching tomorrow. I hope you take some time to relax with some tea or coffee and pop on over to their sites to see what other bloggers are stitching.
Thanks for stopping by!
When I make meatballs, I make a large batch and freeze them too. That's an interesting way to divide the meat up into even sized portions. The Christmas stocking looks great...I'm sure your grand-daughter will be delighted with it. Sometimes I put off simple sewing jobs and when I finally get around to doing them, wonder why I waited so long... Happy stitching! Gail at the Cozy quilter
ReplyDeleteair travel might not be a good idea right now with cancellations and long waits! Nice stitching. I do meatballs sometimes like that but I like to put them in a broiling pan in the oven and let them part way cook with any extra grease dripping down below them - then I divide them up for meals to freeze and usually use part of it for a meal that day. For Thanksgiving I usually try to find a Turkey breast that is standing without the legs/wings then I have the cavity for stuffing. Most times it is just the two of us and I don't plan a big meal but if it is more than us two then there is enough for another one or two people (and still leftovers). I agree with you on the politics and glad the elections went as they did.
ReplyDeleteThe finished pillow is lovely, and your header looks great! I love the sample for your granddaughter’s hairs too and the tree looks festive! Have fun quilting the top of the Ball and finishing the cute polar bear hat. Thank you for sharing and linking up!
ReplyDeleteYou are making great progress on your projects. Again, how I admire your lovely handquilting! Yes! Freezer meals are so handy! Hope arises for sure with recent election results. We've also postponed traveling via air for a bit. Happy stitching and cooking this week!
ReplyDeleteYour crafts are moving along, and fun to see! That hat is going to be adorable. I have made meatballs that way, too - do you bake yours in the oven then? There will just be three of us for Thanksgiving also, so I got a turkey breast and I'm going to cook it in the crockpot. There are lots of recipes for how to do that online.
ReplyDeleteYou are most very welcome, Cathy. Pinterest overflows with fabulous ideas to fire the imagination. That's an adorable little hat. I must say I too, am feeling a little more optimistic for your democracy after this week. Can it be that the cracks are beginning to break open?? A loud and resounding YAY from down here. I too, can procrastinate when it comes to assembling the finished project; a common malady, me thinks.
ReplyDeleteI've never made meatballs that way but I will now, LOL! For me, delaying the finishing has a lot to do with what I dream a project will be and how I think it's going. We are right on top of our projects for so long and become critical of it to the point that it feels like it won't live up to our initial expectations. Of course once you step away for a while and realize it's just fine it's easier to just get on with finishing it. Like a good food dish, some things need to simmer for a while before they can be considered done!
ReplyDeleteAmazing work, hugs June.
ReplyDeletethe polar bear is super cute. I do not have to cook for thanksgiving!! I just have to make two pumpkin pies.
ReplyDeleteI have been the sole cook for every holiday for at least 15 years since our parents got older. It is not difficult to do for just 3 people though.
DeleteHi Cathie, these full coverage cross stitch pieces are time consuming but the results are beautiful. I'm loving those quilting lines you are adding and want to remember them for my hand quilting. Adding a lot of interest to those blocks. I love Swedish meatballs and make them from time to time. Old recipes are often treasures.
