Refreshed landscaping and crafting progress

On Monday, the landscaping around our house was refreshed. Many of the bushes in the area in front of the living room window had died and the flower bed had been creeping forward each year. A sick looking hinoki cypress was removed and other bushes were added. The stones that had been there were repurposed for a small wall and stepping stone walkway to the garden hose. My dianthus was transplanted. It is looking great now that it is refreshed.

Our back yard had been professionally landscaped over 30 years ago, but over the years some plants had died, others got woody and still others were infested with gnats. Almost all of the hedges and bushes were removed and replaced with new plantings. We hired the same nursery that did the work years ago. A son now runs the business. They kept my loved Kousa dogwood and one rhododendron as well as several of my perennial flowers.

There is plenty of room now for me to fill in with other perennials as I see fit.

I am very pleased with this refreshed garden.

I have sewn together each of the seven rows of the granny square baby blanket.

Now I have to sew the rows to each other and crochet a border around the outside. This is my nighttime TV viewing project.

Cinnamon house has all of the bottom motifs completed and the flower pot started on the left side.

In between all of the crafting, I have been reading The Resistance Women by Jennifer Chiaverini.

This is a great book, but I have to remember not to pick up any more WWII books. In the current USA political climate, I just don't enjoy these fear filled and anxiety ridden stories.

I will be joining Frederique at the Quilting Patch on Saturday and Kathy for some Slow Sunday Stitching. Take some time to relax with a cup of tea or coffee and pop on over to their sites to see what other bloggers are stitching.

Thanks for stopping by!

  1. Your gardens look great. Nice to have some breathing room between the plants. The dogwood trees are out in bloom here now. So pretty. Your crochet blanket is coming right along - a good project to work on during tv time. The Cinnamon house project looks close to the finish line. We are mulching our gardens at the moment. They always look better after the mulch has been added. Gail at the cozy quilter.

  3. Your gardens are certainly looking refreshed and lovely, Cathy. That dogwood must be pretty when in flower. The baby blanket will look lovely all sewn together and with the addition of a border. Yes....no 'fear filled and anxiety ridden stories". What's needed is uplifting and inspirational stories to help take one's mind off the idiocy that is prevalent on a daily basis......well, at least try to.

  4. Your landscaping looks wonderful, Cathie! I love the look of fresh new plants - glad you could keep some favorites, too. Your granny squares are coming together nicely, and so is the Cinnamon House. I read a lot of historical fiction, too, and sometimes have the same feeling as you - I need another genre!

  6. I love cinnamon house immensely!! Our house's landscaping was overgrown and not kept up by the elderly lady who used to own it. My husband over the years has tackled the jungle to make it look manicured. It is still a work in progress but we love it!

    1. I really like Cinnamon House. When our 37 year old son was a toddler we had 18 very tall pine trees removed from across the back yard. It is only 60 feet wide. Our yard was covered in needles and roots and he kept tripping on them. We had the local nursery landscape the yard with bushes then. This time I wanted more perennial flowers. Neither Hubby or I enjoy gardening so we weren't going to do this on our own. So glad you enjoy your own gardens.

  7. Such a pretty blanket you are making! And I love Cinnamon House... and everything from Lori at Pansy Patch. I saw a display of her pieces when I went to Stitch North and wanted to start each one!
